[ARCHIVED] 2nd St/Hwy 35 Update

2nd St Hwy 25 Logo

It’s been a busy (hectic) week of work on the Highway 35 project. The contractor is hard at work finishing up important paving work downtown and utility work between Division Street and South Street. Thankfully by the end of the week (weather depending) a lot of these activities will have wrapped up, and life will be a little more back to “normal”.

Here’s what to expect for the remainder of this week:

Front Street to Coulee Road:

  • Finish asphalt paving between Coulee Road and Lolo’s driveway
  • Pavement markings

Coulee Road to Vine Street:

  • Finish asphalt paving north of Coulee Road intersection except for portions of Vine Street intersection
  • Pavement markings
  • Southbound lane to reopen by Friday evening

Vine Street to Lake Mallalieu:

  • Access to North Hudson closed until Friday evening (depending on weather)
  • Asphalt pavement intersection and driveway tie-ins following completion of asphalt paving downtown
  • Concrete paving for short section just north of Vine Street intersection

North Hudson:

  • Access to Hudson closed until Friday evening (depending on weather)
  • Utility work focused at South Street intersection until next week

Next week’s activities:

Front Street to Coulee Road: No activities likely

Coulee Road to Vine Street: No activities likely (project will be substantially complete downtown apart from Coulee Road intersection, lighting, and parts of the Vine Street intersection)

Vine Street to Lake Mallalieu:

  • Access to North Hudson will be restored with one lane taking turns using the traffic signal near Division Street
  • The Vine Street to St Croix Street portion will still be closed to through traffic to complete intersection and restoration work (likely until mid-September). Local traffic and traffic to/from North Hudson will need to utilize 1st or 3rd Streets between Vine Street and St Croix Street.
  • Work will start on the southbound lane and sidewalk between Division Street and Lake Mallalieu

North Hudson:

  • Access to Hudson will be restored with one lane taking turns using the traffic signal near South Street. All traffic to/from North Hudson will need to access Highway 35 via South Street.
  • Utility work will commence between South Street and Monroe Street

If the weather cooperates enough later this week, by this Friday work in the downtown area will be substantially complete, and traffic will be back to a normal pattern. The closure of access to/from North Hudson should also be lifted by Friday evening.

Please bear in mind that traffic backups due to the one lane traffic flow between Division Street and South Street will likely be significant in peak hours. If you are able, please either plan trips for off-peak times and/or use the signed detour route or another appropriate alternate route to reduce traffic backups.

Unfortunately, due to the work that is still outstanding between Vine Street and St Croix Street, increased traffic levels will resume on 1st and 3rd Streets. This will be the case until work is substantially completed between Vine Street and St Croix Street.

Thanks as always for your patience as we complete this major project!
