Greetings,
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable July 4th and Booster Days weekend! Work has resumed on the project after taking a bit of a break for the holiday weekend. This will be a longer update email because the contractor has supplied the City with a longer-term schedule that we would like to update you all on.
First, here’s what is on tap for the next couple of weeks:
This week:
- Front Street to Coulee Road:
- Work on pavement patches on the outside lanes
- Coulee Road to Vine Street:
- Begin work on sidewalk replacement on the east side of the street through the downtown area
- Storm sewer at Locust Street intersection on Saturday morning
- Vine Street to Lake Mallalieu:
- Finish grading work between River Street and Division Street
- Pour curb between River Street and Division Street
- Remove pavement between Vine Street and Myrtle Street
- Potentially start work on the water main and/or sanitary sewer main between Vine Street and Myrtle Street
- North Hudson
- Pavement removal work on first 500’ +/- north of Michaelson Street
- Begin utility main replacement north of Michaelson Street
Next week:
- Front Street to Coulee Road:
- Finish pavement patches in outside lanes
- Coulee Road to Vine Street:
- Begin lighting conduit boring work on the east side
- Continue sidewalk replacement on the east side
- Vine Street to Lake Mallalieu:
- Continue water main and/or sanitary sewer work between Vine Street and Myrtle Street
- North Hudson:
- Continue sanitary sewer and/or water main work north of Michaelson Street
As always, the schedule may be delayed due to weather or other unforeseen site conditions. In particular, this week contains a number of chances for rain that may slow down progress.
Longer-term:
- Work between Front Street and south of the Coulee Road intersection is anticipated to be substantially wrapped up in the next 3 weeks.
- The concrete and lighting work on the east side of the street in the downtown area is anticipated to be complete in 4 weeks.
- The milling and paving work downtown is currently scheduled for mid-August.
- We are still waiting for confirmation on exactly when the new street lights downtown and traffic signal poles will be delivered. The current estimate is late September or October. The lights that were recently installed on the west side of the street downtown are temporary lights to provide adequate lighting while the east side lighting is being constructed and we are still waiting for the permanent lights to be installed.
- The underground utility work between Vine Street and Myrtle Street is scheduled to be completed by August 1st.
- Concrete pavement construction between Vine Street and Division Street is anticipated to occur in the first half of August. During this period, any properties with driveways onto 2nd Street will not have access to those driveways for approximately 2-3 weeks to allow for the new concrete pavement to set up.
- The closure of access between Hudson and North Hudson is anticipated to occur immediately after Pepper Fest in late August. The closure periods for each intersection are currently anticipated to run consecutively rather than staggered, which means that the closure period will likely be one larger period of approximately 17 days.
- Local traffic is anticipated to be routed off of 3rd Street onto 2nd Street after the closure of access to North Hudson is complete around Labor Day.
In the downtown area, we are working with the contractor to address pedestrian access deficiencies along the east side of the street. Please bear with us for the next couple of days so that we can get those resolved.
For those of you in the Vine-Myrtle segment that was just started, you may begin using the dumpsters at St Croix Street west of 1st Street for garbage and recycling collection. Those of you in the Myrtle-Division segment may continue to use the dumpsters until the roadway is reopened after concrete paving is completed.
For those of you in the downtown area, please be advised that Locust Street will be closed on Saturday morning from approximately 7:00 am to 11:30 am to complete a storm sewer line running across the street. The road will be reopened with gravel access upon completion of the storm sewer work.
Thank you in advance for your patience as we switch to new segments and work areas. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with the new work beginning this week.
